ASBEC submission: Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games 100 Day Review

10 January 2025

The Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC) welcomes the opportunity to provide feedback on planning for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Games are a generational opportunity to transform Queensland economically, culturally, socially and environmentally – as well as to create a lasting sustainability legacy that will benefit Brisbane, Queensland, Australia and Oceania for many years to come.

This submission provides comments in relation to the guiding principles for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games which are:

maximise use of existing venues; value within the agreed funding envelope; leveraging investment; legacy focused; integrated Planning and benefits for rural and regional Queensland.

The quality of life we know and love in Australia’s cities and urban areas has been realised only because of the visionary planning, foresight and investment in infrastructure made by generations of Australians before us. There is a unique opportunity in delivering the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games to realise Queensland and Australia’s potential transformative change. ASBEC is strongly supportive of using the Games as an opportunity to define the future communities of Brisbane, with a commitment to planning and designing better communities; to working collaboratively with the federal government and with industry to deliver a better future for all.
