The Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC) welcomes the opportunity to provide input to the proposed changes to the NSW Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) Rules and Regulations.
We commend the NSW Government’s commitment to continuous improvement of the ESS which has already contributed to greenhouse gas emissions reduction of around 27 megatonnes (Mt) and has supported projects that will deliver 57,000 gigawatt hours (GWh) of energy savings over their lifetime. We look forward to this review delivering an updated ESS that will ensure continued alignment with key government objectives including electrification, energy affordability, emissions reduction targets and reliability.
ASBEC supports a modernised ESS that aligns with both NSW’s and national decarbonisation goals, improves consumer protections, and maximises energy efficiency benefits. We encourage harmonisation with other jurisdictions and a focus on whole-of-system solutions to ensure enduring emissions reductions and cost savings for consumers.
